🤔 GOAT Imposter Syndrome
The trail runner having an absolute moment right now is Courtney Dauwalter. There are many stories. She crushed the Western States 100-mile women's record by an hour last year. She then re-set her own record at Hardrock 100 three weeks later. Then, she won UTMB two months after that. Let's just say: no one is even coming close to this girl right now. She's the GOAT.
But the moment from this podcast below caught my attention. You can click the image to see the 60 seconds (well worth it) or keep reading to capture the essence.
The first time she attempted a 100-mile ultramarathon, she DNF'ed (did not finish) at mile 60. This is what was going through her brain:
"What a joke that I'm out here. Who did I think I was to sign up for a hundred..."
At that moment, she thinks she's a joke. She's filled with imposter syndrome. Years later, she's the GOAT.
The lesson: keep going.
At work. In marriage. In parenting. In running. In soul. You can let a seed of doubt and imposter syndrome grow. But more often than not, the right answer is to keep going in what you set out to do and the thing you've spent hours and years pursuing.
Who do you think you are? However you answer that question is who you often become.
🏃🏻♂️Two Pairs of Shoes
I was in a conversation on Strava with a friend this past week. We started talking about multiple pairs of running shoes. Currently, I have four different pairs of running shoes. Here's why I recommend this:
- Variety For Your Feet
When you're training, you have to keep your body guessing. The exact same shoes, every single time, will work your muscles in the exact same way. That makes sense, right? When you have a different set of shoes, they work your feet and legs slightly differently. Which, in the long run, makes a big difference.
- Longevity of Shoe
Running shoes wear out. In fact, when people ask me about a certain pain or tight spot, my first question is how old their shoes are. Running shoes are good for 300-500 miles. I find when I'm rotating shoes, never wearing the same shoe two days in a row, they last a bit longer. I'm not gonna get 1k miles out of a pair... but I'll get all the juice out of each pair I can.
All that said, you should think about getting a second pair of running shoes if you run regularly!
Here is a little book progress update for you before we close this one out:
The draft is done. DONE! I'm reading through my own book now (weird), one last full readthrough before it goes off to my editor (you know who you are... probably... we still need to finalize things). Then, my graphics guy. Then, on to Amazon formatting for digital and print releases. Here we go!

Just run one mile... because one mile inevitably turns to two... Then, to three... And before you know it, you're running further than you ever dreamed. See you on the trails. 🤙🏻
